Help me see this differently.

This is the very first question I ask my higher Self, my inner guide during what seems like chaos in the world. The truth is, I can tend to go down the rabbit hole of doom and gloom pretty quickly. There are a myriad of ways to perceive something. Consider the many opinions we cling to as individuals. How many times in your life have you reacted strongly to something that simply wasn’t true. Mindset, moods, even our health is impacted by our views. Without divine guidance my perceptions can make for a miserable existence.

“Projection makes perception. The world you see is what you gave it, nothing more than that. But though it is not more than that, it is not less. Therefore, to you it is important. It is the witness to your state of mind, the outside picture of an inward condition. As a man thinketh so does he perceive. Therefore seek not to change the world but choose to change your mind about the world. Perception is a result and not a cause. …Nothing perceived without holy vision means anything. And where there is no meaning, there is chaos.

– excerpt A Course In Miracles

I am responsible for what I see.

It’s true – what we see in our environment is a reflection of an inner condition. If I am carrying unresolved fear or guilt I will most definitely project it onto my world. Have you ever been in a relationship where someone accuses you of the very thing that he/she is guilty of doing? For example a client of mine was convinced there were entities/ghosts in her closet. This was her amazing opportunity to heal an inner condition that was manifesting outside of her. When she released her unconscious fear she had no more ghost sightings and the entities disappeared too.

Could you be open to the possibility that it’s not the event but rather it’s the way we see an event that alters our moods, our actions and even our health.

You don’t have to change the world?

You can change the world by changing your mind about it. As we allow ourselves to be healed of mis-perceptions our inner world is healed. This in turn allows for true vision and suddenly the world is healed too. I’ve discovered inner peace by responding to my irrational fears and feelings of unfounded guilt by diving into the upset and then releasing it to my inner guide, God, universal love, the Source within.

This practice also reduces stress. Follow the formula below and respond to perceived turmoil differently. Choose to change your mind about the world. You will experience less stress, less illness, sleep better, have more sustainable energy no matter your age and become more joy-filled, centered and peaceful. There will be a light in your eyes that will shine brightly that others will recognize as their own.

Shift your perception

A Course In Miracles (a spiritual philosophy based on love rather than fear) states that a miracle is simply a shift in perception. Whenever I am troubled by outside events. I use this formula.

  1. Tell yourself that there must be another way to look upon the chaos that you are currently seeing.
  2. Ask your inner guide, “Could You please replace my seeing with Your vision and help me see this differently?”.
  3. If I am sincere, within minutes a new way of looking will permeate my mind and peace will envelop me.
